Use our money guides to prepare your questions

Start with the decision in front of you. Are you opening an account, planning a home purchase or considering a loan? Choose the relevant guide above and collect the documents for your current product. Working from your own statement gives you a firmer starting point than an unfamiliar headline rate.

Write down what you need the product to do. For an account, this could include access to your money and a clear view of fees. For borrowing, record the amount, payment schedule and total repayment shown in the offer. Keep any assumptions beside the figures so you can ask the provider to confirm them.

Review the full picture

Use the same checklist for each proposal. Note recurring payments, one-time charges and conditions that could change the result. Ask for missing information before treating two offers as equivalent. A lower monthly payment does not explain the full commitment on its own.

Our money guides provide a starting point for that conversation. The site does not check your credit, issue a loan decision or connect you to live rates. Read the provider’s current documents before making a decision. You can also explore consumer resources from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
